The performance Heirlooms originates from the thought that inherited objects are vessels for generational connectivity while also artifacts of familial history. For example, I eat dinner with the same plates my grandmother ate from; I hang my shirts from the clothes rack on which my mother hung hers. I care for myself with the objects that they too used to care for themselves and their families. Heirlooms memorializes the plates through their presentation as photographs and creates an environment of domestic care through ritualistic washing and hanging. There are two basins of water, two bodies to simultaneously care for; representing the relationship of caring for another person.
