BIO

Sculptor and photographer Menley Hunt is based in the South East, creating work that examines ideas of family, spirituality, home, and the feminine through sculptural and photographic mediums. Originally from South Carolina, she attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities where she studied Visual Arts. Hunt then completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture with a double minor in Art History and Religious Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. In her practice she engages personal objects with photographic materials, presenting an individual's familial lineage through a larger conceptual framework. Hunt uses the physical process of film photography to connect to sculptural objects and often exhibits through installation and performance. Her photographic imagery ranges from portraiture of female figures and unidentifiable landscapes, to sequences that document performative actions. Hunt has presented work in various exhibitions in Richmond, Virginia including Oakwood Arts’ Summer Solstice Benefit Auction at Candela Gallery, Home Sweet Home at the Anderson Gallery, and PhotoWorks: 22 VCU Artists at Plant Zero Art Center.
